It is the will of God that we enjoy divine healing and health so that sickness will not hinder us from doing the will of God or make us die prematurely:
Acts 10:38 ESV: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
Deuteronomy 7:15 ESV: And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you.
It takes many years to grow spiritually to be able to fulfill your destiny and you need to be in good physical health to pray effectually and fervently, fast: labouring spiritually and physically to perfect and complete the will of God for your life.
Psalms 91:16 ESV: with long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.
How then do we generate, release and receive the power of God for healing and health?
We generate the power of God for divine healing and health by praying in tongues and travail with all kinds of prayer (Eph. 6.18) (See our book A Practical Guide to Prayer for details) for healing and health for one hour (Mt. 26.40) once a week (Gen. 1.3-2.2) as a habit.
We release the power of God for healing and health by confessing the Word of God on healing and health and praying in tongues after the confession at least once in a week (Gen. 1.3-2.2) as a habit.
A typical confession in this regard would be:
‘By the stripes of the Lord Jesus (1 Pet. 2.24) and His resurrection life (Rom. 8.11) and power (2 Cor. 4.10-11) I am healed and live in divine health. Furthermore, I keep the laws of hygiene (Dt. 23.10-14) and medicine (Lev. 13-15), of diet (Lev.11), of rest (Gen.2.2-3; Ex 20.8-11) and of physical exercise (1 Tim. 4.8)’.
We receive the power of God for healing and health by:
1. Frequently (at least once every conscious hour Mt. 24.42) acknowledging (Pr. 3.6, 4.20-22) the Holy Spirit in our thinking with thanksgiving (Col 4.2) for mercy unto eternal life (Jude 1.21).
2. Pray in tongues frequently (1 Cor. 14.18, 28) throughout the day to receive the wisdom (1 Cor. 14.2; 2.7) of God.
3. Act on the Word of God in faith (Jas. 2.26) and practice the laws of hygiene (Dt. 23.10-14) and medicine (Lv. 13-15, Is.38.21); of diet (Lv. 11); of rest (Gen. 2.2-3; Ex. 20.8-11) and of physical exercise (1 Tim. 4.8).
It is instructive to note that most Christians who are sick are breaking some of these physical laws of healing and health: hygiene and medicine, diet, rest and exercise.
Now, we need to understand that the Old Testament laws of diet are not binding on us as New Testament believers: we are allowed to eat anything so long as we pray over it (1 Tim. 4.3-5); however, while it is lawful to eat anything, it is not expedient to eat some things regularly as a habit (1 Cor. 6.12-13), without self-control as some foods are injurious to our health if we take too much of them too often. So, we are to use the dietary laws of the Old Testament as a guide to know what kinds of food are not expedient for good health. There are many fine Christian doctors that can give you this information. So while you are free legally to eat anything, eat as a habit things that are expedient for your good health, so you can live long in good health to fulfill your destiny.
Furthermore, we need to understand that when we take medical treatment (Is.38.21, 1 Tim.5.23) we should take it in faith as an act of corresponding action to our faith:
James 2:26 GNB: So then, as the body without the spirit is dead, also faith without actions is dead.
It is crucial to understand that when we pray for healing, the power of God begins to work immediately in the spirit to overcome the spiritual forces that are enforcing the physical condition of sickness:
Sickness is simply a distortion of the organs and chemicals in our bodies from the way they were created and designed by God to function; it is Satan that is releasing the spiritual forces that are enforcing these distortions.
When we take physical medicine, the physical energy from the bio-chemical, physiological and pharmacological reactions rearranges the bio-chemistry, physiology and anatomy in our bodies back into a condition of health.
So God’s spiritual power of healing attacks the spiritual forces causing the sickness, while physical medicine releases physical energy to cause healing: so God’s power and the physical power released by medicine work together to cause us to be healed.
Where the power of God is released and received in sufficient measure, it will overcome both the spiritual and physical forces causing the sickness and we can experience instant complete healing.
However, this is not always the case as it depends on the measure of power of God released and the measure of our faith (Rom.12.3) to receive the power of God.
So God in His mercy has given and is still giving man the knowledge of medical science to supplement our faith to keep us healed and in divine health: many of us are alive today by God’s mercy through medical science.
However, we know that medical science has its limitations and that is why we need to increase the measure of the power of God we release and the measure of our faith, to the point where we have the spirit without measure and by faith can heal any and every sickness as we see demonstrated in the ministry of the Lord Jesus:
Luke 6:17-19 ESV: And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, (18) who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. (19) And the entire crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.
Matthew 8:16-17 ESV: That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. (17) This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”
So, if we will pray as instructed above, walk in love and forgiveness and keep these physical laws of healing and health, we will be totally free of sickness:
Romans 13:8-10 ESV: Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. (9) For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” (10) Love does no wrong to a neighbour; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Exodus 15:26 ESV: saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.”
