CLEANING WITH THE BLOOD OF JESUS
(week 49/14)
OLUBI JOHNSON
Zechariah 13:1 KJV: In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.
Here, the prophet Zechariah prophesies that in this day of the New Testament, the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem (typifying the end-time perfect church) will have a fountain that will clean it from sin and uncleanness.
What is this fountain?
It is the fountain of the flow of BOTH the blood of Jesus and the water of the life of God that will perform the dual function of:
1. Cleaning the sin substance that blocks the flow of the life of God to our spirits.
1John 1:7 KJV: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1John 1:9 KJV: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2. Cleaning out the sin-nature from the soul: will, mind and emotions and physical body
2Corinthians 7:1 KJV: Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
2Peter 1:4 KJV: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Hebrews 10:22 KJV: Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
John 4:14 NKJV: but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
This cleaning of acts of sin with the blood of Jesus and of the sin-nature with the life of God is not just received when we get born-again, but is to be CONTINUOUSLY IN OPERATION AFTER WE GET BORN-AGAIN.
It is this CONTINUOUS CLEANSING OF THE BLOOD that will MAINTAIN our RIGHT-STANDING with God and so give us a guilt-free conscience from condemnation (Heb.10.22, 9.14, Rom. 8.1-2) giving us CONTINUOUS ACCESS to INCREASING MEASURES of life of God that will ultimately perfect us:
Romans 3:23-26 NIV: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (24) and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (25) God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through FAITH IN HIS BLOOD. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— (26) he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
Romans 7:15-25 KJV: For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. (16) If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. (17) Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. (18) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. (19) For the good that I would I do not: but the evil, which I would not, that I do. (20) Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. (21) I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. (22) For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: (23) But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. (24) O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? (25) I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Romans 8:1-4 NIV: Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, (2) because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. (3) For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, (4) in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
Hebrews 13:20-21 KJV: Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, THROUGH THE BLOOD of the everlasting covenant, (21) MAKE YOU PERFECT in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 9:14 NKJV: how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Hebrews 10:22 NKJV: let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
1Peter 1:2 NKJV: elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
In our article next week, we will see how the CONTINUOUSLY INCREASING FLOW OF THE LIFE OF GOD into our souls and bodies will clean out the sin-nature from them and so perfect us.
