CAPTURING GOD’S THOUGHTS
(week 26/16)
OLUBI JOHNSON
Words are uttered thoughts, so when we speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit gives utterance, we are speaking God’s thoughts into the air around us:
Acts 2:4 KJV: And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
1Corinthians 14:2 AMP: For one who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding].
1Corinthians 2:11 AMP: For what person perceives (knows and understands) what passes through a man’s thoughts except the man’s own spirit within him? Just so no one discerns (comes to know and comprehend) the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
WHY AND HOW then do we CAPTURE these divine thoughts that we speak out in tongues?
Firstly, we need to capture God’s thoughts so we will comprehend the spirit of scripture and not just the letter of scripture.
2Corinthians 3:6 KJV: Who also hath made us able ministers of the New testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
For instance, if I say in English ‘make hay while the sun shines’: the letter is that everyday I see the sun shining I should go and make hay; however, the spirit of this phrase is that I should use my time wisely to do as much as I can when I have the time and opportunity.
There are many scriptures like this: where the literal meaning does not CAPTURE the thought in God’s mind: that is why we need the Holy Spirit to give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation concerning the written Word of God.
Many scriptures are symbolic or allegorical in this way so we need to capture the ‘spirit’ of scripture and not just the letter.
Secondly, as we capture MORE AND MORE of God’s thoughts our mental capacity and sagacity will increase INCREDIBLY and so give us the ability of the mind of Christ as exemplified in both Solomon and Daniel.
Daniel 1:17 KJV: As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
Daniel 1:20 KJV: And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
1Kings 4:29-34 KJV: And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. (30) And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. (31) For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about. (32) And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five. (33) And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. (34) And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
Luke 11:31 KJV: The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, A GREATER THAN SOLOMON IS HERE.
Colossians 1:27-28 KJV: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY: (28) Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present EVERY MAN PERFECT IN CHRIST JESUS:
1Corinthians 2:16 KJV: For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST.
How then do we CAPTURE OR GET THIS MIND OF CHRIST?
A. Maintain an attitude of humility and meekness:
Proverbs 11:2 NIV: When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
1Corinthians 14:2 AMP: For one who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding].
1Corinthians 2:7 KJV: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom that God ordained before the ages for our glory,
C. We CAPTURE God’s thoughts, that we have spoken into the air in tongues and groanings or travail, through the written Word by the leading and revelation of the Holy Spirit as we read and meditate on the Word and listen to anointed prophetic and apostolic preaching and teaching.
1Corinthians 2:13 AMP: And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, COMBINING and INTERPRETING spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess the Holy Spirit].
Isaiah 28:11-13 KJV: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. (12) To whom he said, this is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. (13) But the word of the LORD was unto them [COMBINING AND INTERPRETING] precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
John 16:13 KJV: Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into ALL TRUTH [by combining and interpreting scripture from ALL the Bible]: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and HE WILL SHEW YOU THINGS to come.
John 17:17 KJV: Sanctify them through thy truth: THY WORD IS TRUTH.
So by humility, praying in tongues and travail and the written Word, we can capture God’s thoughts and have the mind of Christ!
