Understanding the Spirit without measure
(week 50/08)
Olubi Johnson
The spirit without measure is the release of the power of God without measure that can do spectacular things on a consistent basis, like we see in the ministry of Christ: turning water to wine, feeding the 5,000 with 5 loaves and 2 fishes, raising the dead, getting tax money from the mouth of a fish.
These kind of miracles occurred in the ministry of the Lord Jesus on a consistent basis because He was entrusted with the Spirit without measure:
John 20:30-31 ESV Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; (31) but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John 21:25 ESV Now there are also many other things that Jesus did: Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
John 3:34 ESV For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.
Hitherto the church has only experienced the ‘earnest’ or ‘deposit’ of the power of the Holy Spirit. So we have had the Spirit only in a measure:
Ephesians 1:13-14 AMP In Him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings (Gospel) of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit. (14) That Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance the firstfruits, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage, in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring complete possession of it–to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 4:7 ESV But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
Romans 12:3 ESV For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. However now in this 3rd. day God is presently about to release upon us the Spirit without measure: the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:
Ephesians 4:11-13 ESV And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, (12) to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, (13) until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
For us to experience this ‘spirit without measure’ we must grow into the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ or get under the covering of those who have, like the 12 Apostles and 70 disciples did under the ministry of Jesus:
Luke 9:1-2 ESV And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, (2) and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
Luke 10:1,9 MKJV And after these things the Lord appointed seventy others, And He sent them two and two before His face into every city and place where He was about to come. (9) And heal the sick that are in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near you!
This will involve getting an understanding of the Spirit without measure and how it is generated, released and received.
We will get this understanding by listening and submitting to and obeying the prophetic ministries in the church, who have this understanding and are teaching it:
1 Chronicles 12:32 MKJV (32) And from the sons of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, the heads of them were two hundred. And all their brothers were at their command.
This message is a part of this prophetic ministry.
Now in more precise terms what is the Spirit without measure?
To understand this we must understand the power of God we receive and release when we get baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak with tongues is the Spirit with measure.
This measure of the Spirit will enable us to cast out devils, speak with tongues and heal the sick to a degree. We have or should have experienced this to some degree:
Mark 16:17-18 MKJV And miraculous signs will follow to those believing these things: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak new tongues; (18) they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will be well.
However the ‘measure’ of the Spirit without measure is far greater than this in that it produces spectacular results on a consistent basis. In contrast the spirit with measure produces results (not necessarily spectacular) on a sporadic basis.
How then is the Spirit without measure generated, released and received?
We will look at the answer to this in our article next week.
