Keeping Yourself in the Love of God 2
(week 31/03)
Olubi Johnson
In last week’s article we saw that we need to keep ourselves in the love of God especially during temptations and trials so that we can be more than conquerors (Romans. 8.37) in all situations however severe.
This week we will look at some simple instructions of minimum things you can do daily to keep yourself in the love of God.
MINIMUM* THINGS TO DO DAILY TO KEEP YOURSELF IN THE LOVE OF GOD NO MATTER HOW BUSY YOU ARE
1. Acknowledge the Holy Spirit as a person: to obtain mercy (or eternal life) to be faithful in all you do to please God throughout the day (Proverbs 36)
“Holy Spirit please help me and give me eternal life to be faithful in all I do so as to please You throughout today in Jesus Name. Thank You”. 1 minute
2. Choose the fear of God
“I choose to fear God so, I humble myself by submitting to the will of God even when I don’t feel like it, especially in prayer, knowing the certainty of His chastening if I disobey and the security of His mercy when I obey”. 1 minute
3. Determine not to be offended and to keep yourself in the Love of God
“I keep myself in the love of God by not allowing anything or anybody to offend me and by constantly asking the Holy Spirit for mercy unto eternal life to be faithful: in watchful praying in the Spirit, binding the devil in the air and taking righteousness, peace and joy during temptations and so I am more than a conqueror in all things.” 1 minute
4. Prayer for wisdom and revelation
“Father, give me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the present complete knowledge of You to grow into the perfection and fullness of Christ.” 1 minute
5. Confession to walk in love
Meditation and confession of (1Corintians. 134-8) daily.
Say the following things with your mouth with a determination to practice them:
“I am patient and kind in all things, I am forbearing and longsuffering, I am not jealous or envious. I rejoice at the blessing of others. I am not boastful, I boast and glory only of Jesus Christ because God gave me all I have.
I am not proud, I am courteous to my fellow brethren and treat them with respect either big or small. I am always polite and not rude to others.
I do good to all men including myself but I am not selfish so I seek the good of others also. I do not insist on my own rights or my own way except when it concerns the vital will of God and even then with meekness and reverence.
I forgive people when they wrong me and pray that God will give life to them to help them to repent, relating to them in wisdom but without bitterness.
I do not worry. I cast all my cares and burdens on Jesus. I love righteousness and hate
sin and wickedness. I do not rejoice when others go wrong, I pray for them. I am always ready to believe the best of others, I never give up on them even when they are wrong. I keep praying for them.” 5 minutes
Total Time: About ten minutes
Numbers 1 to 5 should be done first thing in the morning
6. Communion Prayer and Bible Reading
Ask God to give life (1John. 516, John. 526, Jn. 1010) to you in a measure that is more than enough to build yourself up (Jude 20) as you pray in the spirit in communion prayer in tongues for at least one hour daily in between and during physical activities as much as possible (1Corintians.145, 18). Do the Balanced Bible Reading (see Bible Reading Guide) as much as possible.
Should be done as you have the opportunity during the day
7. During Temptations and Trials
Bind the devil in the air and take righteousness, peace and joy in the situation and pray in the Spirit: pray in tongues and praise God as the situation allows you.
E.g. During a tribulation or trial say, “Holy Spirit please give me mercy unto eternal life to be faithful in this temptation. Spirits in the air behind this temptation, I bind you in Jesus name. I take righteousness peace and joy in this situation in Jesus name”. Then pray in tongues and praise God as much as possible and practicable.
