In our article last week, we saw that in this year of 2013 of recompense and rest, our souls are being liberated by the power of the Spirit without measure typified by the flood waters of Noah that raising the ‘ark’ to ‘rest’ on the ‘mountains of Ararat’.

The ‘ark’ is symbolic of the church perfecting the love of God by the blood, the Word and the Spirit and those under it’s covering by meekness and lowliness of heart.

The ‘rest’ on the ‘mountains of Ararat’ symbolizes the perfect liberty of the soul: will, mind and emotions by the power of the Spirit without measure overcoming the greatest heights (Dt. 12.2) of demonic power (Ps. 73.3,12; Is. 28.12-18) assailing the church in the ark, through the idolatry of covetousness (Col 3.5).

The liberty of the soul is the liberty of the will to be free (1 Cor. 6.12, 7:37) to do the will of God; of the mind to be fully enlightened (Jn. 8.12, 1.4) and so operate with the ability of the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2.16) and of the emotions to be fully controlled by the fruit of the Spirit (Eph. 5.9, Rom. 14.17, Gal. 5.22).

This week, we look at the liberty of the mind in more detail.

The mind is the part of our soul that receives, processes and releases information to the will and emotions,  which in turn trigger our actions.

Proverbs 23:7 MKJV: for as he thinks in his heart, so is he; Eat and drink, he says to you, but his heart is not with you.

The more information we can mentally receive, the faster we can process it and apply it to do innovative and creative things, the more developed our minds are.

The essence of education is to train the mind to receive, process and apply information in specific areas of knowledge: like law, physics, medicine, economics, literature, music, engineering etc.

The processing of knowledge is understanding; the application of knowledge is wisdom.

The more of the light of the life of God in our minds, the more efficiently our minds can receive, process and apply knowledge.

John 1:4 KJV: In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Ephesians 4:18 KJV: Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

John 8:12 NKJV: Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

A mind fully enlightened with the life of God can be likened to a computer scanner that scans information from a document by passing light over the document and then transfers the scanned information to the computer memory. This information will always be in the computer memory and available for recall for viewing or printing.

In the same way, a mind fully enlightened with God’s life can quickly ‘scan’ any information that comes to it, store it accurately, process it and recall it for application, with great speed, innovation and creativity!

Contrastly, when the mind is darkened because of the absence or very low intensity of the light of the life of God, the mind’s ability to receive, process and apply knowledge is severely impaired.

Before the fall of man, Adam’s mental capacity could name all the animals with perfect recall; this was a wonderful mental feat considering the large number of animals: mammals, birds, insects and so on that God had created.

Genesis 2:19 NKJV: Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.

To give us some insight into the infinite mental ability of God’s mind, the scripture tells us, He numbers the stars and calls them each by name: there are billions of billions of stars that form the galaxies and the physical universe.

Psalms 147:4 NIV: He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.

It is this ability of the mind of God that is available to us in Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:16 NIV:  “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

In our article next week, we will look at examples of men who allowed God’s life and spirit to liberate their minds.
