The Greatest Love
(week 40/08)

John 15:13 (ESV): Greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Here, the Lord Jesus tells us that the greatest love one can show others is to give them divine life by ‘laying down your life’: giving up legitimate activities and pleasures to give time in prayer to transmit divine life from the Holy Spirit through your born-again human spirit to them.
This divine life will save them from eternal damnation or loss so it is the greatest love you can show men.
It is this same love God showed to humanity by sending the Lord Jesus to give us divine life:
John 3:16 (ESV): “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
This love is divine love and far transcends the highest expression of human love of physical self sacrifice:
1 Corinthians 13:3 (AMP): Even if I dole out all that I have [to the poor in providing] food, and if I surrender my body to be burned or in order that I may glory, but have not love (God’s love in me), I gain nothing.
So, the greatest love is divine love that causes you to lay down your life: your personal feelings and agenda, to give divine life to others for their eternal benefit. Let us therefore practice and perfect divine love by washing one another feet: forgiving and praying for one another!
