Freedom From Sin 3
(week, 13/08)
Olubi Johnson
In last article we saw the different forms of the sin nature or substance and why we need to be totally free from it in this lifetime.
This week we will see how to be totally free from the sin nature.
We gradually get totally free from the sin substance by using the blood, the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit:
1. The blood of Jesus frees or cleanses us from the blocks and spots of sin that block or hinder the flow of God‚ life to our spirits, when we commit acts of sin:
1John 1:7-10(KJV): But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (8) If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Furthermore the blood frees us from the guilt of sin:
Hebrews 9:14(KJV): how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish unto God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
2. The Word of God, which contains the life (John. 6.63) of God: living water, cleanses out the sin substance from our souls and bodies:
Ephesians 5:26(KJV): …that He might sanctify it, cleansing it by the washing of the water in the Word,
2Corintians 7:1(KJV) Then having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilements of flesh and of spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
2Peter 1:4(KJV): by which means He has given to us the very great and precious promises, so that through these you might be partakers of the divine nature, escaping from the corruption in the world by lust.
3. The power of the Holy Spirit enables us to overcome committing acts of sin:
Galatians 5:16-17(KJV): But I say, Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (17) For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another; lest whatever you may will, these things you do.
Romans 8:10-13(KJV): But if Christ is in you, the body indeed is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (11) But if the Spirit of the One having raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the One having raised the Christ from the dead will also make your mortal bodies live through the indwelling of His Spirit in you. (12) So, then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to flesh, (13) for if you live according to flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the practices of the body, you will live.
So by a daily diligent application of the blood, the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit to pray and walk in the Spirit we can gradually get totally free from the nature, guilt and acts of sin and be free indeed as Jesus said we would be!
